1. Purbaya Talks of Whoosh Debt Burden Sharing Plan Between Gov't and Danantara
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has confirmed that there is no official decision yet regarding the mechanism for handling the substantial debt of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train, Whoosh. However, he acknowledged that the government is considering a burden-sharing plan with the National Investment Agency, Danantara.
During a media discussion at his office in Jakarta on Friday, November 14, 2025, the Minister expressed a personal preference not to utilize the State Budget (APBN). "I'd rather not pay for it," he said.
However, Purbaya clarified that the final decision rests on President Prabowo Subianto's policy. Based on current discussions, the proposed framework suggests the government would bear the cost of the Whoosh infrastructure, while Danantara would handle the operational aspects of the rail service.
2. Danantara Aims for Garuda Indonesia's Full Fleet Operation by 2026
The Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) is targeting to have the entire Garuda Indonesia fleet fully operational by 2026. Febriany Eddy, the Managing Director of Danantara Indonesia, stated that numerous aircraft have been grounded since the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Our target is to have all the currently grounded aircraft flying again next year, gradually," she said during an interview in her office on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Febriany explained that the recent fund injection from Danantara into Garuda will be primarily allocated for maintenance. She elaborated that the aircraft were non-operational due to overdue maintenance checks. The resulting operational loss from these grounded aircraft has caused a revenue shortfall while the airline was still obligated to cover aircraft leases and other fixed expenses, leading to significant losses for the company.
3. US Asks Indonesia Not to Halt Imports Amid Cesium-137 Contamination Issues, Says Minister
The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs has addressed the impact of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination on bilateral trade between Indonesia and the United States. According to Edi Prio Pambudi, Deputy for Economic and Investment Coordination at the Ministry, the Indonesian government has emphasized to the U.S. that the contamination case cannot be used as a basis for banning imports of all Indonesian products.
Edi stated that the U.S. government has made a reciprocal request, asking Indonesia not to halt all imports from the U.S. should any of its products be contaminated.
"Currently, we are concerned that some of our goods are contaminated, but the United States has not yet raised concerns that all products from Indonesia will be contaminated with Cesium-137," Edi told reporters at the Coordinating Ministry office in Jakarta on Friday, November 14, 2025.
