TEMPO.COJakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, stated that the government is preparing temporary shelters for flood victims in Sumatra. According to him, the government is prioritizing the accelerated provision of temporary housing for residents who have lost their homes.

Pratikno conveyed this while leading a Coordination Meeting for Emergency Disaster Management, together with the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the North Sumatra Provincial Government at Silangit Airport, North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

The acceleration of the provision of temporary shelters was decided by Pratikno, along with the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

"There are several things that need to be prioritized. I have discussed with the Infrastructure Minister about how rapid recovery can be carried out, including for temporary housing," said Pratikno in a written statement on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

Pratikno explained that the procurement of temporary housing involves the TNI, Polri, and local governments. The preparation of housing is being carried out concurrently with efforts to recover flood-affected areas, including landslides.

He expressed appreciation to the personnel and volunteers working in the field. "Thank you to the TNI, Polri, and Regional Governments who are working hard to ensure that temporary housing can be provided while rehabilitation and reconstruction will also be carried out soon," he said.

Currently, the government is focusing on mobilizing national resources to mitigate the impact of the disaster. This includes evacuating and protecting residents, distributing logistics, deploying healthcare workers, and restoring transportation and communication access. "The President has ordered to add all national resources, focusing on emergency response as quickly as possible," Pratikno stated.

He also ensured that the basic needs of the flood-affected communities have been met. In addition to North Sumatra, he said the government is also strengthening disaster management and delivering aid to communities in Aceh and West Sumatra. "It has been reported that logistics continue to flow from the government and non-governmental organizations. Distribution will continue at several points," said the former State Secretary.

Infrastructure Challenges and Casualty Update

Flash floods and landslides have occurred in several areas of Sumatra. As a result of the disaster, access to aid in several areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra is difficult due to damaged infrastructure.

The number of casualties due to the floods and landslides in Sumatra continues to increase. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that the number of victims has reached tens to hundreds in the search effort until the end of this weekend.

The Head of BNPB, Lieutenant General Suharyanto, revealed the latest data in a virtual coordination meeting for disaster management held on Sunday, November 30, 2025. "Several regencies/cities have been affected," Suharyanto said in the meeting.

In Aceh, Suharyanto mentioned that the number of casualties until this Sunday is 54. Meanwhile, 55 other people are still reported missing.

The number of casualties in West Sumatra is 90 people, with 87 others reported missing and still being searched for.

Sultan Abdurrahman contributed to the report.
