TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, also known as InJourney Airports, is preparing three airports to resume serving international flight routes. These airports are Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang, Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang, and HAS Hanandjoeddin Airport in Belitung.
This follows the issuance of Minister of Transportation Decree Number KM 26 of 2025, which grants these three airports international status.
InJourney Airports President Director Faik Fahmi stated that coordination is underway with all stakeholders to maximize the readiness of these airports to operate as international gateways.
Preparations include meeting essential requirements such as the availability of customs, immigration, and quarantine personnel or units.
"Coordination is also being carried out to ensure security, safety, and services," said Faik on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Faik explained that the decision to grant international status to the airports is intended to stimulate economic growth, promote tourism, and attract more investment and trade.
InJourney Airports is also working on improving services and operational standards in line with its transformation strategy based on three pillars: Premises (infrastructure and globally standardized facilities), People (personnel with global qualifications), and Process (ecosystem-based operations). These improvements are supported by technological innovations.
Discussions with airlines are ongoing regarding which international routes will be launched. "In the near future, we will inform which international routes will be opened," Faik added.
Operational Readiness
According to InJourney Airports Director of Operations Wendo Asrul Rose, the three airports are preparing operationally in terms of procedures, staff, facilities, and infrastructure. He noted that these airports already possess the necessary resources for international operations, having previously served such routes.
Wendo confirmed that the required facilities, including space for customs, immigration, and quarantine activities, are in place. "Space for customs, immigration, and quarantine activities is also available," said Wendo.
These airports have also received recognition for their facilities and services, including on the international stage.
Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport, with a capacity of 3.4 million passengers annually and a 3,000 x 45-meter runway, won three Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards in 2024 from Airport Council International (ACI): Best Airport of 2 to 5 Million Passengers in Asia-Pacific, Airport with the Most Dedicated Staff in Asia-Pacific, and Most Enjoyable Airport in Asia-Pacific.
Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport, which can accommodate over 6 million passengers per year and has a runway measuring 2,650 x 45 meters, also received ASQ Awards in 2024, including Best Airport of 2 to 5 Million Passengers in Asia-Pacific and the ACI World Director General's Roll of Excellence.
HAS Hanandjoeddin Airport was recognized by several institutions, receiving the Healthy Ports and Airports 2024 award from the Ministry of Health and the 2023 OTBAN Award for Best Airport Operator from the Airport Authority Region VI Padang.
