This Year's Jogja Coffee Week to Feature More Competition Sessions

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The coffee lovers' event, Jogja Coffee Week 2025, will feature more competition sessions for visitors and participants to join. The event, which will run for three days from September 5th to 7th, 2025, carries the theme 'Journey to the Brew'. This year, there are seven new types of competitions, almost double the number from the previous year.

"After seeing the enthusiasm of the visitors at the previous events, we are preparing seven national-level competitions for this year," said the Chairperson of the Jogja Coffee Week 2025 Committee, Rahadi Saptata Abra, in Yogyakarta, on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025.

Rahadi explained that one of the new national competitions being highlighted is the Green Bean Competition. This competition challenges participants to present the quality of green coffee beans or unroasted coffee beans to find the best results.

"For the Green Bean Competition, it will be presented directly to the visiting audience at the Indonesia Coffee Showcase Pavilion, along with free cup taster sessions," Rahadi said.

The coffee beans that pass the evaluation stage will be included in an auction involving buyers. In addition to this competition, there are other prestigious competitions, including the Barista Innovation Challenge, challenging baristas to demonstrate their coffee brewing and innovation skills.

There are also competitions from previous years that continue to be held, such as the Brewers Competition, Cup Taster Competition, Fun Roasting Competition, and Latte Art Competition. "For this event, we are targeting 30,000 visitors," he said.

Rahadi added that not only are there more competition sessions, but the number of exhibition booths at this year's Jogja Expo Center will also increase from 100 to 150 booths. The exhibition will be divided into thematic zones, including Roastery Zone, Coffeeshop, ToolsMachinery & Packaging, Coffee Pairing, Milk, Flavours & Essences, Street Coffee, IoT, and Innovation.

There is also a Coffee Tourism zone, Government & Financial Institutions, Tea & Chocolate, Wellness, Pastry, Herbs, Traditional Food, Coffee Related Industry, and a Food & Beverage area. In addition, there will be space for learning about the ins and outs of the coffee industry during the exhibition. This includes educational CoffeeTalk & Workshop sessions with experts, baristas, roasters, and coffee industry players. There will also be Coffeetainment featuring music performances and dance art.

"This event remains committed to being a platform for education, business networking expansion, and exploring the latest trends and innovations in the national coffee industry," he said.

Rahadi hopes that this event can also help drive the acceleration of exports, improve the quality of human resources, and strengthen Indonesia's position as one of the world's best coffee producers. "Our mission remains, to promote the growth of the coffee industry from upstream to downstream, from farmers, SMEs, to well-known brand companies," he said.
