TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Works has stated that the temporary housing for flood victims in Aceh Tamiang regency is being built with high-quality materials. The construction of these temporary housing units aims to provide a decent and safe place of residence for the disaster-affected victims.

The Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, mentioned that the construction is a manifestation of the state's presence to ensure that the residents no longer endure the limitations of living in refugee tents.

"We are fully committed to supporting the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). These temporary housing units are built so that the affected communities can promptly reside in a more decent, safe, and dignified place," said Dody, as quoted from a written statement on Saturday, December 3, 2025. He added that the houses will also be equipped with clean water and sanitation facilities.

The construction of temporary housing in Aceh Tamiang is being carried out by the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure of the Ministry of Public Works, in collaboration with the state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk. The progress of the work is deemed speedy, starting from the foundation to the installation of modular roofs.

The Deputy for Emergency Response of BNPB, Budi Irawan, appreciates the quality of the temporary housing buildings. He considers the materials used to be premium and suitable for habitation. "I see that the materials are premium and very suitable for the community. The work is also very fast," said Budi.

The temporary housing in Aceh Tamiang is planned to accommodate around 80 households. The area consists of seven blocks of modular residential buildings and an additional block with a capacity of 12 households.

Each block can accommodate up to 48 people or 12 households. The total capacity of one location reaches approximately 336 people. The entire temporary housing area is equipped with communal toilets, electrical installations, lighting, as well as clean water and sanitation facilities.

Technically, the houses are constructed using a modular building system with a lightweight steel frame. This method was chosen to ensure strong and rapid construction. The construction work includes the foundation, installation of the frame, walls, lightweight steel roofs, as well as mechanical, electrical, and piping installations.

The Ministry of Public Works aims to complete the construction of the temporary housing in Gampong Bundar by the end of January 2026.

Based on data from the Ministry of Public Works as of December 28, 2025, the number of severely damaged houses in the three provinces reached 47,149 units. Out of this total, 29,542 units are being handled through the construction of temporary houses, while the other 17,057 units receive assistance from the Temporary Housing Fund.

In Aceh Province, the number of severely damaged houses is recorded at 38,169 units. The government is building 28,236 temporary housing units, which is about 74 percent of the total damage. Meanwhile, another 9,996 units are being assisted through the Temporary Housing Fund.

In North Sumatra, 876 of the 6,322 severely damaged houses are covered by temporary housing, which is approximately 14 percent. Dody stated that the remaining 4,833 units received assistance from the Temporary Housing Fund. Construction progress is encouraged continuously in line with land and logistics readiness in the field.

Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, there are 2,658 severely damaged houses. The government plans to construct 430 units of temporary housing, approximately 16 percent, while the remaining 2,228 units are assisted through the Temporary Housing Fund.
