TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of professors have decided against attending the scheduled dialogue invitation with President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
These professors include Adrianus Meliala, a Criminology Professor at the University of Indonesia. When confirmed, Adrianus said he had no idea about the meeting, but since his name was listed on the invitation, he decided to skip the agenda.
"No (I won't come)," said Adrianus when confirmed in a WhatsApp message.
Meanwhile, the Professor of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, also said he could not attend the meeting, despite receiving the invitation. He's currently overseas.
"Indeed, I received an invitation to the Palace tomorrow with professors from various universities, but I'm in Hainan now," said Tjandra to Tempo.
A Professor at the Institute of Domestic Governance (IPDN), Djohermansyah Djohan, also said he received an invitation for a dialogue with the head of state at the State Palace. However, he has not decided whether to attend.
"Still thinking about it," said Djohermansyah in a message to Tempo.
The Professor of Literature at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Manneke Budiman, will also skip the invitation.
"Scheduled to examine a doctoral thesis of a Ph.D. student," said Manneke when confirmed by Tempo.
The invitation to the professors was sent using letterhead from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. The letter was signed by the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry, Khairul Munadi, on January 9, 2026.
Based on a copy received by Tempo, the agenda includes a briefing and dialogue with President Prabowo Subianto together with the leaders of state universities.
In the invitation, 180 names of professors from several universities are slated to attend a meeting intended to bolster university role in supporting the president and vice president's Asta Cita goals.
The meeting with President Prabowo is scheduled to be held at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Thursday morning, January 15, 2026.
Tempo attempted to confirm with the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry, Khairul Munadi, and the State Secretary Minister, Prasetyo Hadi, regarding the event. But both have yet to respond at the time of writing this article.
