TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture (PMK) Pratikno stated that several regencies/cities have declared an emergency transition status following the Sumatra post-disaster. The determination of the transition status is based on the conditions of each region. However, Pratikno did not specify the areas.

"Several regencies/cities have declared an emergency transition status, although some other areas are still extending the state of emergency according to the disaster management conditions in each regency/city," said Pratikno in the Sumatra disaster response press conference at Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta, on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Pratikno said the government has begun building temporary and permanent housing in several locations. The government is also in the process of identifying beneficiaries, preparing land, and initiating construction.

Pratikno mentioned that Lhokseumawe in Aceh has been directly designated for the permanent housing scheme. Meanwhile, Pidie Regency has already built several temporary housing units with the soonest target.

The Sibolga Regency in North Sumatra has been designated to build permanent housing. The location has been determined, and the construction process is ongoing.

In West Sumatra Province, the construction of temporary housing has commenced in Pesisir Selatan, Padang Pariaman, and Agam. The government aims to complete the project within the next few weeks. "So, this regency will soon resume community life," he said.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the number of casualties due to the Sumatra disaster has reached 1,068 people as of Friday, December 19, 2025, at 09.30 AM WIB (Western Indonesia Time). BNPB also reported that 147,236 houses have been damaged.

President Prabowo Subianto said that the government will soon build temporary and permanent housing for the victims affected by the Sumatra disaster. He received a report from Minister of Public Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait that 2,000 houses will be built starting from Sunday, December 21, 2025. "Possibly, these houses can immediately become permanent residences," he said during the full cabinet plenary session at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday, December 15, 2025.

He claimed that the government has allocated a budget and prepared for the construction of these houses. The budget exists due to the budget reduction policy at the beginning of Prabowo's administration. "We saved hundreds of trillions," said Prabowo.

Additionally, Prabowo plans to form a rehabilitation and reconstruction task force immediately following the disaster in Sumatra. He claimed that the disaster management situation is still under control. "We have deployed resources for management. This involves three provinces out of a total of 38, so the situation is under control. I continuously monitor this," he said.
