TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), has extended condolences to Indonesia following the devastating floods and landslides that have struck multiple regions in Sumatra.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conveys its deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to President Prabowo Subianto and all families affected by this disaster,” MBS said, as quoted by Antara.
He also offered prayers for those who lost their lives or were injured, adding, “May the Almighty Allah grant mercy to the victims, provide a speedy recovery for the injured, and safely reunite the missing with their families.”
Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Faisal Abdullah H. Amodi, expressed similar condolences to the Indonesian government, the local authorities in Aceh, and those affected by the disaster.
“We offer our condolences to the government of Indonesia and Aceh. We pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” he said.
The floods and landslides, which have impacted Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, have now claimed 593 lives as of December 1, 2025, at 05:55 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time), according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
An additional 468 people remain missing, while thousands more have been injured or displaced.
The disaster has caused widespread damage: entire villages have been cut off, roads have collapsed, bridges washed away, and electricity and communications remain disrupted in several areas. Relief operations continue as authorities work to reach isolated communities and provide aid to the displaced.
