Revamped Aquarium Singapore Oceanarium to Open on July 23

1 day ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singapore is set to unveil the revamped version of S.E.A Aquarium, which closed in April 2025, after 12 years of operation. The new, and bigger, aquarium is called the Singapore Oceanarium, and will open starting July 23, 2025, on Sentosa Island.

As reported by Travel and Leisure, the Singapore Oceanarium will be three times larger than its predecessor. It will comprise 22 marine life zones claimed to be bolder and wilder, including moon jellyfish and a dino exhibition. Visitors can explore the underwater world from shallow waters to the deep sea, immersing themselves in various periods of time, from the prehistoric era to the present.

"More than just a new name, Singapore Oceanarium represents a bold transformation into a world-class ocean institute that inspires deeper knowledge, love and action for our oceans," Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) stated in a media release on Monday, May 26, 2025, as cited by Channel News Asia.

Zones at the Singapore Oceanarium

One of the exhibition spaces in this aquarium is Ocean Wonders, home to one of the world's largest kreisel habitats and thousands of moon jellies. There is also Singapore's Coast, a landscape inspired by mangrove forests and an interactive habitat with native biodiversity.

In the Open Ocean zone, visitors can get up close with reef manta rays and zebra sharks, swimming among thousands of other marine animals in a 36-square-meter space.

For fans of ancient life, there are Ancient Waters and Conquering Land. In these zones, tourists can witness dinosaur attractions as well as prehistoric marine creatures the size of humans and living fossils.

The Spirit of Exploration zone exhibits the Jewel of Muscat, a replica of a 9th-century Arab dhow.

Research Center

This aquarium partners with leading academic institutions in Singapore to establish a Research and Learning Center. This includes a five-year applied research collaboration with the National University of Singapore and a two-year research collaboration with the Earth Observatory of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University on climate resilience and marine conservation.

The collaboration includes learning laboratories, seminar rooms, and an event space at the top of the building, which serves as a hub for scientists and researchers.

The new Singapore Oceanarium building is certified as Green Mark Platinum Zero Energy. The building uses solar energy and smart design to ensure minimal environmental impact.
