TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to establish 7,000 integrated schools in each of Indonesia's districts starting in 2026. The government will establish a special task force to develop plans and implement the program.
"I am currently working on this; I have asked the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, possibly with assistance from other ministries, to establish a special task force," said the President during a full cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, October 20, 2025, as reported by Antara on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
President Prabowo explained that the construction of integrated schools is the government's effort to distribute education evenly and improve the quality of human resources. The concept of integrated schools combines elementary, junior high, and senior high/vocational schools into one educational zone.
Integrated schools are intended for children from less fortunate families categorized in deciles 3 to 5. "This means we may have to build these 7,000 integrated schools," said the President.
Integrated schools are the third educational concept designed by Prabowo since his inauguration as President on October 20, 2024. The other two schools are the Garuda School and the People's School.
The Garuda School is designed for children with exceptional academic achievements and intelligence and is managed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. Meanwhile, the People's School is managed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and is intended for children from poor families categorized in deciles one and two of the National Socioeconomic Single Data System.
Within this administration's first year, a total of 16 Garuda Schools had been officially launched by October 16, 2025. Additionally, the government has officially operated 165 People's Schools across various Indonesian cities since July 2025.
