TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto plans to improve 60,000 schools by 2026. He emphasizes that education is a means of promoting welfare. He believes that education and health are the keys to alleviating poverty.
Prabowo conveyed this message during the inauguration of the Taruna Nusantara High School Malang Campus this afternoon. "This year alone, I will renovate 60,000 schools and so on," said Prabowo on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in Malang Regency, East Java, as broadcasted through the President's Secretariat YouTube channel.
Prabowo stated that approximately 300,000 educational facilities in Indonesia need improvement. "I hope that within four years, we can complete all school campuses in Indonesia, and we will also enhance their quality in every field," said Prabowo.
In addition, Prabowo also wants every province in Indonesia to have at least one distinguished school, whether it's the Taruna Nusantara High School or the Garuda Distinguished High School.
According to him, developing a nation lies in its ability to acquire knowledge and technology. Indonesia can only achieve a high level of civilization with knowledge and technology.
He believes that education can create prosperity and a better quality of life for the people. With education, he said, people can live free from poverty and hunger.
Meanwhile, Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Taruna Nusantara High School Campus Malang in Pagak, Malang Regency, East Java. The Malang campus is one of three operating campuses of the Taruna Nusantara High School. The other two are the main campus of Taruna Nusantara High School in Magelang, Central Java, and the Taruna Nusantara High School Campus Cimahi, West Java.
Meanwhile, the construction of the Taruna Nusantara High School is currently underway in three other locations, namely the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Campus in East Kalimantan, Minahasa Campus in North Sulawesi, and Pagar Alam Campus in South Sumatra.
Prabowo stated that Taruna Nusantara High School was founded to nurture and provide the best opportunities for Indonesian students with superior academic ability. "And ultimately, they can become useful national cadres," said Prabowo.
