TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto issued a joint statement at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday, June 27, 2025. They both expressed hope for peace between Iran and Israel and throughout the Middle East.

PM Anwar stated that Malaysia strongly condemns Israel's attacks on Iran. "We support Iran's right to defend its dignity, integrity, and sovereignty. However, as emphasized by the President, what is even more crucial is our shared commitment to creating peace, not only between Iran and Israel, but also across the entire Middle East, by ensuring the rights of the people of Gaza, and recognizing Palestine as an independent and sovereign state," he said.

In his statement, PM Anwar strongly denounced Israel's barbarity, which continues to cause genocide against the people of Gaza, Palestine. On the other hand, PM Anwar expressed relief that a ceasefire had been reached between Israel and Iran after 12 days of both countries launching airstrikes against each other.

During the same occasion, President Prabowo Subianto addressed the Iran-Israel situation as one of the topics discussed in the meeting with Prime Minister Anwar. "On a global level, we discussed the developments in the Iran-Israel conflict and the current situation in Palestine. We continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution from all parties. We welcome the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. We hope this process can continue toward achieving peace," he said.

President Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Malaysia view it as important to have a global collective effort to promote a peaceful resolution to various world conflicts.

Meanwhile, regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the President reiterated that Indonesia and Malaysia consistently support the independence of Palestine and believe that a two-state solution is the way to end the humanitarian crisis and genocide in Gaza.
