TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director of Business Transformation and Sustainability of PT Pertamina (Persero), Agung Wicaksono, stated that the Investment Management Agency of Danantara will conduct a joint study on the massive consolidation of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
"Yes, we will review it together, we will participate with Danantara, and the three main strategies are restructuring, business streamlining, and business development. We will join them (Danantara)," Agung said when met in Jakarta on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
Last June, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, said that they plan to streamline the number of SOEs and their subsidiaries from over 800 to about 200 companies.
According to Dony, this is an effort for these SOE companies to focus only on their respective core businesses. For example, Pertamina, a company primarily involved in oil and gas, also owns hospitals and travel agencies.
Regarding this matter, Agung acknowledged and considered it as part of the right business transformation and streamlining. "For example, in developing an oil field, the regulations require a separate company for each working area. So, when Pertamina explores a new oil field, there will be a new company. This may not be very relevant anymore," said Agung.
Furthermore, regarding the Pertamina Hospital, for instance, the former Deputy for Funding and Investment of the Capital City Authority (OIKN) mentioned that the shareholders of Pertamina Bina Medika IHC and Danantara were in discussions regarding this matter.
