TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Indonesian House of Commission I member, Abraham Sridjaja, has asked the government to communicate with Myanmar to secure the release of Indonesian citizens detained in Myanmar.
"We hope that all Indonesian citizens will receive protection," said Abraham at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Abraham revealed this information after previously disclosing the detention of an Indonesian citizen by the Myanmar military junta during a working meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Abraham admitted that he did not know the chronology of the Indonesian citizen's arrest. He handed over the matter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Because I only receive aspirations from our citizens," he said.
According to him, the Indonesian citizen is an Instagram celebrity accused of financing rebel groups.
"She was detained for immigration-related issues. It would be best if communication could be established to provide amnesty or deportation because she is accused of funding Myanmar rebels," said Abraham.
He hoped that the government could take diplomatic steps so that the concerned individual could return to their homeland.
Meanwhile, the official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, mentioned that the detained Indonesian citizen is AP. She is accused of illegally entering Myanmar and having a meeting with an armed group categorized as an illegal organization by the local authorities.
Based on these allegations, AP faces several charges, including the Anti-Terrorism Law, the Immigration Law of 1947, and Section 17(2) of the Unlawful Associations Act.
At present, AP is serving her sentence at Insein Prison in Yangon, one of the high-security detention facilities under the authority of the Myanmar military junta.
