TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace is opening opportunities for the public to attend the ceremony commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. Deputy State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro stated that the government will implement a "ticket war" system for citizens hoping to attend the proclamation of the Independence Day ceremony and the lowering of the national flag.
"We will also hold a ticket war for those who wish to attend the Proclamation Ceremony at Merdeka Palace, so that the broader public has the opportunity to witness it in person at the Palace," Juri said during a press conference on Friday, July 31, 2026.
However, Juri did not elaborate on the mechanism or timeline for the Independence Day ceremony ticket war. He noted only that details would be announced at a later date.
"We hope that the Proclamation Ceremony and the Flag Lowering on the 17th will be attended by at least 8,100 people, symbolizing the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day," Juri said.
President Prabowo Subianto will serve as the ceremony inspector during the pinnacle of the Independence Day commemorations. On this occasion, Prabowo has extended invitations to prominent national figures to attend the ceremony at the Palace in Jakarta.
"The President instructed that all national figures, including former presidents and vice presidents, be invited to attend the Proclamation Ceremony," Juri said.
Alongside the proceedings at the Presidential Palace, the government is organizing a public celebration at the National Monument (Monas) on the same day. The government is preparing a wide array of attractions, including traditional Independence Day games, play zones for children, live entertainment stages, drone light shows, video projection mapping, wayang puppet performances, fireworks, and complimentary food.
