TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, has announced a change in the funding mechanism for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. The government will discontinue the reimbursement system and implement a down payment scheme instead. According to Dadan, this policy adjustment will take effect following the 2025 Eid al-Fitr holiday.
"Now, all operational units (SPPGs) no longer use partner funds but instead utilize down payments that we send 10 days in advance," Dadan told reporters after signing a cooperation agreement with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan at the BPJamsostek Plaza in South Jakarta on Monday, April 21, 2025.
The MBG program, implemented through nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), was previously hindered by the reimbursement scheme. One consequence, according to Dadan, was the disruption of nutritious meal services from April 8 to 13, 2025, even after children had returned to school. "We want to stop the reimbursement payment mechanism first," he said.
Currently, Dadan assures that all operational funds in the field originate directly from BGN, no longer relying on partner funds. He further stated that no new SPPGs are permitted to operate without first receiving a down payment.
"If you visit any SPPG now, ask about the source of their funds; it must be the National Nutrition Agency," he emphasized.
Previously, the government had indeed attempted to transition the MBG program away from the reimbursement mechanism starting in February 2025.
"We were trying to start in February, moving away from reimbursement so that state funds would be directly in the partner's account," Dadan said on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
