TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Achmad Maulana Syarif, a player from the Indonesian U-23 national team, stated that the Garuda squad is fully prepared to face Vietnam in the final of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup.
The match will be held at the Main Stadium of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Central Jakarta.
"We are very ready for this match and will bring the trophy home for everyone," Achmad said in Jakarta on Monday, July 28, 2025.
The final is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. WIB at GBK. Indonesia will face the Vietnam U-23 team, also known as the Golden Star Warriors, who previously won the tournament in 2022 and 2023.
Achmad mentioned that Indonesia’s history of falling short in past finals at GBK serves as extra motivation. The last time Indonesia secured a major title at the stadium was during the 1987 SEA Games, 38 years ago.
“We use that history as motivation. It has been so long since we won here. With our renewed strength and strategy, we hope to turn past failures into a new chapter of success at GBK,” he said.
Garuda Muda will aim to end both Vietnam’s recent dominance and their own title drought. Achmad acknowledged that his team had struggled to break through defensive lines during the tournament, particularly with finishing chances.
Even so, he assured that the players would stick to the coach’s tactics with greater discipline.
“We understand our difficulty in scoring, but if we stick to our plan and play the right way, the goals will come. The key is playing with precision and following the strategy,” said the Arema FC midfielder.
Achmad played a key role in Indonesia’s 8-0 win over Brunei Darussalam but missed the match against the Philippines. He returned as a substitute in the final group stage match against Malaysia and started again in the semi-final against Thailand, which ended in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Head coach Gerald Vanenburg also expressed excitement ahead of the final. He said the team is ready to give their all.
“We will play with full heart and do our best to win,” said the 61-year-old Dutch coach.
