TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s national football coach, Patrick Kluivert, has broken his silence following the Garuda squad’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a heartfelt post on his personal Instagram account, the Dutch football legend expressed deep disappointment while taking full responsibility for the team’s results.

“This defeat is a bitter lesson but also a reminder of how high the dream we share truly is,” Kluivert wrote.

The 49-year-old coach said he fully understands the frustration felt by Indonesian fans after the team’s two losses to Saudi Arabia and Iraq. “As head coach, all responsibility rests on my shoulders,” he stated.

Kluivert emphasized that both the players and coaching staff had worked tirelessly each day with passion, discipline, and unity to make Indonesia proud. “We have given everything,” he said.

Despite falling short of qualification, Kluivert believes the team has built a strong foundation for the future. He stressed that building a national team is not just about results, but also about instilling mentality, work ethic, and belief that Indonesia can compete at the global level.

He also thanked everyone involved in the national team’s journey, including players from both domestic and international clubs, as well as the entire staff, for their dedication and teamwork.

“We worked tirelessly to unite everyone, with a staff that stood together as one heart and one voice,” he wrote.

Kluivert noted that Indonesia’s football journey is far from over, calling the setback part of a longer process toward lasting progress.

“True progress takes time. What we are building today will continue to grow beyond today,” he wrote.

In closing, Kluivert expressed his gratitude to all Indonesian supporters for their unwavering faith and encouragement, whether from the stands or from home.

“Your voice matters. Your support lifts us. Your trust moves us. Terima kasih,” he wrote.
