TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) will oversee a ban on fireworks parties during New Year's Eve in the city. This restriction applies to hotels, shopping centers, and other private areas as the new year approaches.
Jakarta’s Satpol PP Head, Satriadi Gunawan, stated that the directive follows a meeting with Governor Pramono Anung. "In line with the Governor's instructions, we will issue a circular urging owners of hotels, malls, and private spaces not to hold fireworks parties," Satriadi said in a statement on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Satriadi mentioned that the ban serves as the foundation for the advisory sent to business owners. The city is implementing this policy as a sign of solidarity with regions in Indonesia currently facing disasters, including Sumatra.
According to him, Satpol PP will monitor the entire Jakarta area to ensure business owners follow the circular. The agency will assign units at the regional level to watch for potential violations.
Satriadi noted that once the Jakarta Provincial Government issues a circular, prohibited activities like fireworks displays are usually not held. "However, if we find any violations, we will issue a warning to stop the activity immediately," he said.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo urged residents not to light fireworks during New Year's Eve celebrations. Pramono clarified that this advisory is a request for the public rather than a total legal ban on individuals.
The Jakarta Provincial Government will not stop individuals from lighting fireworks on their own. However, the Governor asked residents to show restraint and avoid using fireworks and firecrackers on New Year’s Eve.
Pramono assured the public that all celebrations held by government agencies and private entities, including hotels and malls, will not feature fireworks. "I have decided that for the entire Jakarta area, both government and private events must not use fireworks," Pramono stated on Monday, December 22, 2025.
According to the Governor, New Year’s Eve events will still take place in Jakarta, but the scale will be smaller than in previous years. To replace fireworks, the government will present drone performances and video mapping. These attractions will focus on the theme of Jakarta as a global city and express solidarity for Sumatra.
