TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have successfully exposed the illegal trade of hundreds of bales of imported second-hand clothing, often referred to as balpres. Authorities seized a total of 207 balpres intended for illegal distribution and sale within the Jakarta area.

"This enforcement operation is a part of law enforcement efforts targeting illicit trade and money laundering (TPPU)," stated the Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Edy Suranta Sitepu, in a press release on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Edy explained that the discovery of this illegal imported second-hand clothing trade originated from a public tip regarding a small truck loaded with used clothing in the Duren Sawit area, East Jakarta. Following an initial search, police found 23 balpres of imported second-hand clothing inside the vehicle. The police subsequently arrested the driver, identified only by the initial 'D'.

The investigation was then expanded to the Pasar Senen area, Central Jakarta. At this location, police apprehended an individual with the initial 'I', who is suspected of coordinating the receipt and distribution of the illicit goods.

Based on the interrogation of 'I', investigators learned about two additional trucks en route to Jakarta. The team mobilized to the Padalarang area, West Bandung, to intercept these vehicles.

At the Padalarang location, the police discovered two small trucks, three box trucks, and a minibus loaded with an additional 184 balpres of imported used clothing. Police arrested seven drivers and assistants who were accompanying the vehicles.

"The evidence and suspects have been secured, and the investigators will proceed with the case to ensure the legal process is followed," Edy confirmed. He added that all evidence and the detained individuals have been transported to Polda Metro Jaya for further examination.
