TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno and Governor of Banten Andra Soni have discussed plans regarding the development of public transportation infrastructure. One of the topics of their conversation was the potential expansion of the Transjakarta bus services to become TransJabodetabek, which will connect Jakarta with the neighboring cities of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.
Rano Karno indicated that the regional governments of Jakarta and Banten are preparing a preliminary framework for the Jabodetabek transportation system. "Transjakarta's service area extended to the periphery of Jakarta, but our current vision is to broaden its reach to encompass the entire TransJabodetabek region," Rano said during a visit to the Banten Provincial Government Office in Serang, Banten, on Friday, April 11, 2025, as noted in a written statement.
He further elaborated that the proposed TransJabodetabek public transportation network will serve areas within the Banten province, specifically mentioning the regions of South Tangerang, Tangerang Regency, and Tangerang City.
He added that this initiative will undergo technical discussions, involving the Jakarta Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda). A topic of the upcoming discussions will be the development of an integration strategy for the Trans-Jabodetabek transportation system.
Furthermore, Rano conveyed that the future aspirations for the Trans-Jabodetabek transportation network are even more extensive. "One of the objectives is to extend the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system to Banten. We will later determine the optimal locations for the stations," remarked the politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
Previously, Banten Governor Andra Soni held a meeting with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Following their meeting, Governor Pramono announced that the MRT service would be expanded to Balaraja in Banten province. He explained that the primary goal of this expansion is to alleviate traffic congestion within Jakarta and its surrounding suburban areas.
Pramono also announced the forthcoming launch of the TransJabodetabek service. He stated that the initial phase of the project would involve the operation of four new routes. "We will open four new TransJabodetabek routes, serving Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang, and other areas," he announced at Jakarta City Hall on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
However, Pramono stopped short of detailing these four new routes. He indicated that the comprehensive information concerning the TransJabodetabek routes will be officially announced by Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Syafrin Liputo.
