TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An elderly anti-government activist in her 70s is being investigated for allegedly plotting to kill Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the police on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the suspect is accused of intending to kill Netanyahu and soliciting help from other activists to obtain a weapon. She is also said to have gathered information about the prime minister's security arrangements.
As quoted from Al Arabiya, the National Unit for Serious and International Crime Investigations and the Shin Bet internal security agency have submitted evidence to the Attorney General's office while awaiting possible formal charges.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing sources familiar with the case, said that the suspect, a woman, recently fell ill. She had told people that she planned to take Netanyahu with her.
Several people who heard her remarks notified the police, prompting an investigation. She was arrested about six weeks ago and has been released to house arrest.
Haaretz stated that the woman is from Tel Aviv, but her identity remains unclear. She is suspected of targeting Netanyahu with an explosive device or a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
Details of the case have been kept under wraps, and the suspect is expected to be formally charged with “criminal and terrorism-related offenses.”
