TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Immersion in local culture has emerged as one of the most prominent activities in the tourism industry this year. Many tourists are interested in experiencing local culture by visiting cultural villages, engaging with local residents, and participating in craft-making.

This tourism trend was revealed by Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, November 20, 2025. She also noted that a significant number of tourists are environmentally conscious and prefer tourism facilities and services that adhere to sustainable principles. Niche nature and adventure-based tourism, such as cave exploration and high-safety-standard diving, are also seen as highly attractive to many visitors.

She stated, "Indonesia is renowned for its natural wealth, making nature and adventure-based tourism one of our main attractions." Furthermore, she added that culinary tourism and gastronomy are drawing tourists keen to explore the diverse flavors of Indonesian cuisine.

Wellness Tourism

Wellness tourism services, on the other hand, are appealing to tourists who seek holistic health experiences rooted in nature and tradition. "With the growing public interest in holistic health, Indonesia has a tremendous opportunity to establish a strong presence in this segment," the Minister of Tourism asserted.

Widiyanti mentioned that the future of Indonesia's tourism sector is significantly influenced by the ability of all stakeholders to maintain a balance between growth and sustainability.

In this regard, she explained that the success of the tourism industry is measured not solely by the number of visits, but also by the quality of the tourists' experiences, the welfare of the local community, and the preservation of the environment and local culture.

Through innovation, adaptive management strategies, and cross-sector collaboration, Widiyanti remains optimistic that Indonesia can become a world-class tourism destination. "Indonesia’s tourism is currently at a strategic point; global trends favor us, and our policy direction is increasingly clear. The coming year will be a crucial moment to realize tangible growth," she concluded.
