Indonesian Hajj Pilgrim Passes Away en Route to Madinah

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Indonesian hajj pilgrim from Sidoarjo, East Java, passed away en route to Madinah. Nur Fadillah, 45, was a member of the SUB 20 group or the embarkation of Surabaya. She passed away on Thursday morning, May 8, 2025, around 06.30 Saudi Arabian time.

The Head of the Airport Work Area, Abdul Basir, stated that Nur Fadillah had a history of illness. The pilgrim has been prayed for at the Nabawi Mosque and buried in the Baqi Cemetery complex in the Holy Land.

The Religious Affairs Ministry has affirmed its commitment to fulfill the rights of the deceased pilgrims. "The government ensures that all of the deceased's rights are fulfilled, including the implementation of the hajj proxy and insurance claims following applicable regulations," said Basir in Madinah, as quoted from the official statement on Friday, May 9, 2025.

He stated that the protection of pilgrims is the government's priority. Basir said this protection includes pilgrims in good health and those facing adversity.

The Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry recorded 112 groups with 44,601 pilgrims arriving in Madinah until the seventh day. On the eighth day, the ministry scheduled an additional 19 groups with 7,501 pilgrims departing from Indonesia. "Out of the total arrivals, two pilgrims passed away in the Holy Land," Basir stated.

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, a hajj pilgrim from Banjarnegara passed away en route to Madinah. Daimah Suwaryo, 65, was declared deceased at 03:12 Saudi Arabian time. She was a participant in the hajj from the Solo embarkation. Daimah has also been buried in the Baqi Cemetery complex in Madinah.
