TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the Indonesian government is still monitoring the conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran. This also includes the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which could raise fuel prices.
"We will observe the geopolitics, surely, this war is only a few days old, we will monitor for how long," said Airlangga when met at his office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Airlangga said the government is still monitoring the impact of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He mentioned that the government will first observe how oil prices move before determining the next steps.
Regarding the possibility of an increase in fuel and subsidized LPG prices if global oil and gas prices continue to rise, Airlangga stated that decisions will be adjusted according to developments in the war situation and global energy prices.
According to him, policy responses will depend on whether the conflict is short-lived or prolonged, similar to the Russia-Ukraine war.
As for the import of aviation fuel (AF) amid the crisis, Airlangga mentioned that there has been a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pertamina and several companies. He did not elaborate on the technical aspects of this cooperation.
Despite the increasing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, Airlangga affirmed that Indonesia remains safe amid the turmoil.
