TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with the Chief of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Yousef Ahmed Al-Hunaiti, to discuss various defense cooperations, including plans for exchanging intelligence information concerning the situation in Gaza, Palestine.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Defense office in Jakarta on Friday, November 14, 2025. "We are preparing a cooperation committee for information exchange," Sjafrie said after the meeting.

Sjafrie noted that Jordan holds a strategic position as one of the countries neighboring Palestine and Israel. For this reason, Indonesia has decided to utilize Jordan as a primary source for intelligence reports regarding the situation in Gaza.

He emphasized that Indonesia greatly needs this information because the government plans to send Indonesian National Army (TNI) troops for a peacekeeping mission there, following Israel's massive military aggression in the last two years.

Sjafrie did not reveal when Indonesia will deploy troops for the peacekeeping mission in Gaza. He mentioned that 20,000 Indonesian soldiers will be sent to participate in the international joint forces for the mission.

The cooperation committee for information exchange between Indonesia and Jordan will be managed by defense attaches from each country. Sjafrie explained that the intelligence obtained will be used to brief the Indonesian peacekeeping forces on the specific tasks they need to carry out in Gaza.

Sjafrie stated that Indonesia will soon appoint a defense attaché for its embassy in Jordan. Currently, he said, Indonesia only has a liaison officer for defense affairs in the Middle Eastern country.

President Prabowo Subianto previously stated Indonesia's willingness to deploy 20,000 personnel to help secure peace in Gaza, Palestine. He expressed this commitment during his speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

“We will continue to serve where peace needs guardians,” Prabowo stated during the online coverage. He added that this statement is not merely symbolic, asserting that Indonesia’s commitment to help realize global peace has been proven directly in the field.
