Indonesia Secures Ticket to 2025 U-17 World Cup After 4-1 Triumph Over Yemen

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia U-17 national team secured their second victory in Group C of the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup after winning 4-1 against Yemen at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, April 7, 2025. With this victory, the Young Garuda squad secured a ticket to the 2025 U-17 World Cup.

The Indonesia U-17 team took the lead in the first half through goals made by Zahaby Gholy and Fadly Alberto Henga. Yemen narrowed the score with a penalty goal from Mohammed Wahib Al-Garash early in the second half, before Evandra Florasta scored from a penalty kick in the 87th minute, adding another goal two minutes later.

This victory puts Indonesia at six points from two matches in the group stage, following their previous 1-0 win against South Korea in the first match last Friday. With this accumulated score, Nova Arianto's squad leads the temporary standings of Group C with six points, three points clear of Yemen in the second place, while South Korea and Afghanistan currently occupy the third and fourth positions.

This result ensures that the Indonesia U-17 national team finishes in the top two positions of the Group C standings, securing their qualification for the 2025 U-17 World Cup despite still having one match remaining against Afghanistan on Thursday.

Match Highlights

First Half

The Indonesia U-17 national team took the initiative to attack early in the match. The first goal was scored 15 minutes into the match, as Gholy unleashed a volley after keveraging a Yemeni defender’s mistake. The powerful shot from outside the penalty box eluded goalkeeper Fuad Al-Asbahi.

After that, Yemeni players amped up their offense. Several times, the Indonesia U-17 players were fouled.

In the 25th minute, Nova Arianto's squad scored their second goal through Fably Alberto Henga with a header, taking advantage of Gholy's pass. The score changed to 2-0.

Approaching halftime, Yemen once again increased their attacking intensity. They attempted to breach Indonesia's defense. Goalkeeper Dafa Al Gasemi had to work hard to keep his goal intact, resulting in a 2-0 score at the end of the first half.

Second Half

Coach Nova Arianto made two player substitutions as they entered the second half. Zahaby Gholy and Fably Alberto Henga, who scored in the first half, were replaced by Rafi Rasyiq and Fandi Ahmad.

In the 52nd minute, Yemen U-17 narrowed the gap through Mohammed Wahib Al-Garash's penalty goal, bringing the score to 2-1. The referee pointed to the spot after Putu Panji was deemed to have committed a foul inside the penalty area.

After successfully scoring the first goal in this match, the team led by Samer Mohammad Saleh increased their pressure on Indonesia's defensive line. However, the Young Garuda squad persisted.

At the 79th minute of the match, controversy arose. Tajikistan referee, Davlatov Abdullo, did not give a second yellow card to Yemen's captain Mohamed Al-Garash despite committing a foul against an Indonesian player. The referee only awarded a free-kick.

Six minutes later, goalkeeper Fuad Al-Asbahi fouled Rafi Rasyiq inside the penalty area, leading the referee to award a penalty to Indonesia.

This golden opportunity was not wasted. Evandra Florasta scored two goals during the penalty, first at the 87th minute and again just two minutes after that.

The 4-1 score favoring Indonesia held until the end of the match, which ensures Indonesia’s place at the 2025 U-17 World Cup in Watar this year. The event will take place from November 3 to 27.
