TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three players from the Indonesian U-23 national team are uncertain to appear in the final match of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup against Vietnam.
The match will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 08:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
The three players in question are Toni Firmansyah, Arkhan Fikri, and Jens Raven.
Among the three, Arkhan Fikri appears to be the least likely to play. The 20-year-old Arema FC midfielder has not featured since the group stage match against the Philippines due to injury.
Toni Firmansyah, another key figure in Indonesia’s midfield, has been out since the 63rd minute of the group match against Malaysia. The 20-year-old Persebaya player has been instrumental in maintaining the team’s midfield balance throughout the tournament.
In contrast, forward Jens Raven has a better chance of featuring in the final, either from the start or as a substitute. Raven currently leads the top scorer chart of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup with seven goals.
Team Management Comments
Team manager Ahmed Zaki Iskandar said all three players took part in Indonesia’s official training session at Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium on Monday night, July 28.
"For today, it is slightly possible for Toni to play. As for Arkhan, we are still monitoring and evaluating. If it is not possible for them to play, we will not force them to. The coach will not force them to play. Regarding Jens, we are still observing today whether he can play from the start or not tomorrow," said Zaki.
Head coach Gerald Vanenburg also addressed the players’ condition during a press conference at SUGBK on Monday. He said he would assess their fitness again before the match.
"For now, they (Arkhan Fikri and Jens Raven) seem to be fine. However, for Arkhan, I still need to reassess him," said Vanenburg.
"I think the most important thing for me is that they are fit. Also, for the future where they will play a lot. I know tomorrow's match is important. But I always consider the condition of the players. If they need more time (to rest), we will give it to them," he added.
