Indonesia Confirms Stable Basic Commodities Supply Ahead of Ramadan, Eid 202

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has confirmed that the national supply of basic commodities remains secure and prices have stayed relatively stable since Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026, with stability expected to continue through Ramadan and Eid 2026.

Smooth distribution and sufficient stock levels are cited as the main factors keeping prices under control across regions.

“Thank God, last Christmas and New Year, the stock was guaranteed, and prices were stable. I have traveled from Sumatra to Java with the Minister of Trade,” said Coordinating Minister for Food and Agriculture Zulkifli Hasan during a cheap market event in Solo City, Central Java, on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Zulkifli highlighted Solo City as one of the regions with the most stable food prices, even below the national retail price average.

“Solo is the best; prices are very stable,” he said, accompanied by Trade Minister Budi Santoso and Solo Mayor Respati Ardi.

The minister emphasized that the government continues to bolster stocks of key commodities such as rice, chicken, eggs, and fish, preparing for the increased demand during the fasting month and Eid celebrations.

“If the distribution is good and the stock is sufficient, prices will not fluctuate,” Zulkifli added.

In case of minor price increases, the government is ready to respond by organizing cheap markets. These events are supported by political parties and local governments. Achmad Sapari, Chair of Solo’s Regional National Mandate Party (PAN), said 300 basic needs packages would be provided to residents in need, each containing five kilograms of rice and Rp50,000 to buy cooking oil.

“This is not just the work of the city government; it involves coordinated action from the province and national ministries,” said Respati.

The primary focus of inflation control is staple commodities such as rice, while secondary items like shallots, garlic, and chilies—also major contributors to inflation—are closely monitored through distribution chain interventions. Respati stressed vigilance against hoarding.

The government has assured that efforts to secure food stocks and maintain price stability will continue and intensify ahead of Ramadan and Eid 2026, in line with rising public demand for essential commodities.
