Indonesia and Tajikistan Commit to Enhancing Bilateral Relations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The governments of Indonesia and Tajikistan have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations. The understanding was reached after a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir and the First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Hokim Kholiqzoda, at the Tajikistan Presidential Administration office complex in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Reported from the official release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on Saturday, the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, Sherali Kabir. The two countries are encouraging cooperation in the economic sector and people-to-people contact.

The governments of Indonesia and Tajikistan agreed that the momentum of 31 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries needs to be utilized to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially concrete cooperation in various fields.

The two countries are also committed to encouraging mutual visits by high-ranking officials and exploring the establishment of a bilateral consultation mechanism.

Not only that, the meeting also specifically discussed the potential for increasing cooperation in the trade, investment, industry, and energy sectors.

On that occasion, Kholiqzoda conveyed Tajikistan's desire to invest in Indonesia, especially in the downstream industrial sector.

Based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' records, Tajikistan is a country rich in natural resources, including bauxite and cotton, as the main export commodities.

During the meeting, the two countries also discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of hydro-energy and palm oil processing.

In addition, in order to increase interaction between business circles, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha extended an invitation to Tajikistan to participate in the Halal Indo Expo on 25-28 September 2025 and the Trade Expo Indonesia on 15-19 October 2025. Kholiqzoda welcomed the invitation and will encourage high-level participation.

Not stopping there, Tajikistan hopes that Indonesia can also increase the number of scholarships for Tajik students to be able to study in Indonesia.

On Friday, May 30, 2025, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha also held a bilateral meeting with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and the Head of the State Investment and Asset Management Agency, Sulton Rahimzoda.

The meeting discussed in detail various concrete cooperation that the two countries will explore, including in the political, socio-cultural fields, as well as strengthening trade and investment in both countries.

Arrmanatha was in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, to lead the Indonesian delegation at the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation 2025 which was held on May 29-31, 2025.
