The Indonesian U-16 women's national team has secured a spot in the semifinals of the 2025 AFF Cup. The young Garuda Pertiwi squad achieved a 3-1 victory over Malaysia at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on the night of August 24, 2025.
Indonesia's win was thanks to goals from Nasywa Salsabila in the fourth minute, a penalty by Jazlyn Kayla in the 15th minute, and Vivi Fernanda in the 81st minute. Meanwhile, Malaysia's response came from Nur Laila Syamila's free-kick goal in the 80th minute.
This marks the second consecutive victory for the Indonesian U-16 women's national team, earning them a spot in the semifinals as the champions of Group A. Indonesia now awaits the results of matches in the other groups to determine their opponent in the knockout stage.
Based on the tournament bracket, Indonesia may potentially face the Group C champion or the runner-up of Group B. The first scenario will occur if the best runner-up spot goes to Group A or Group C, as the other semifinal slot has already been taken by the Group B champion.
If the best runner-up comes from Group B, they will be Indonesia's opponent in the semifinals. The semifinal round of the 2025 AFF Cup will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Match Summary
The Indonesian U-16 women's national team immediately launched an attack, nearly scoring a goal when Shifana Rizka escaped the Malaysian defender in the third minute. However, the shot from the number 17 winger went wide.
Just a minute later, Shifana successfully initiated Indonesia's opening goal, with her pass to Nasywa Salsabila resulting in a goal. Under the guidance of coach Timo Scheunemann, the team played confidently, dominating the game and continuously pressuring the opponent's defense.
In the 15th minute, their lead was extended. Malaysia's player committed a handball offense in the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick that was successfully converted by captain Jazlyn Kayla Firyal.
After the break, there were not many changes. The Indonesian U-16 women's national team continued to dominate and create numerous chances. However, their decision-making and finishing were not optimal, preventing further goals.
Towards the end of the match, in the 80th minute, Malaysia managed to score and narrow the lead. A foul led to a free-kick inside the penalty box, which Nur Laila Syamila capitalized on with a powerful deflected shot.
Remarkably, the Indonesian players did not panic. They immediately responded with a counter goal just one minute later. A combination play involving Jeane Franscoise, Dian Aprilia, and Vivi Fernanda concluded with the latter's first-time left-footed shot that the Malaysian goalkeeper could not reach.
