Ibrahim Sjarief, Husband of Journalist Najwa Shihab, Passes Away at 58

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sad news has come from the extended family of Quraish Shihab. Ibrahim Sjarief bin Husein Ibrahim Assegaf, the husband of journalist and Narasi founder Najwa Shihab, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 02:29 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time) at the National Brain Center Hospital (RS PON) in Jakarta.

The news was shared through a broadcast message and confirmed by Najwa Shihab’s assistant, Hana.

The body of the deceased is currently at the family residence on Jl. Jeruk Purut No. 8-9, Cilandak Timur, South Jakarta, where tahlil prayers will begin this evening. “At this time, the body is already at the funeral home,” Hana informed Tempo on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Arrangements have been made for the funeral to take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM WIB at TPU Jeruk Purut.

In the same announcement, the family requested the public’s prayers and asked for forgiveness for any mistakes the deceased may have made in his lifetime. "May his good deeds be accepted by Allah, the Most Gracious and Most Merciful," the message stated.

Ibrahim Sjarief was known for his humility and preference for staying out of the spotlight, despite being married to the well-known journalist Najwa Shihab. He is survived by their child, Izzat Ibrahim Assegaf.
