TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel stood guard along the Slipi flyover near the DPR/MPR Building in Central Jakarta at 9:00 a.m. local time on Friday, August 28, 2026, following Thursday's demonstration. Beneath the flyover on Jalan Pejompongan Raya, a similar military presence was observed.
Troops wore full camouflage uniforms with various colored berets, including orange, dark blue, and dark green, with some occasionally communicating via handheld transceivers.
Around 8:00 a.m. this morning, a group of demonstrators remained gathered under the Slipi flyover. They refused to disperse, maintaining that several of their fellow protesters were still being held in police custody.
Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin, who arrived at the scene, stepped in to mediate. "It was reported that there was a group of people under here, under Slipi, who were not willing to disperse or go home. That's why I met them earlier," Arifin said at the site on Friday, August 28, 2026.
According to him, all of the remaining demonstrators had traveled from outside the capital. "Earlier, some of them mentioned they were from Bogor," he noted.
Arifin briefly asked for the names of their detained comrades. However, the protesters were only able to provide a single name. "I have contacted the Central Jakarta Police Chief and will forward this to the Jakarta Regional Police," Arifin said.
Meanwhile, the area directly in front of the Parliament Building was completely clear of demonstrators. The site had been thoroughly cleaned, leaving no trash behind.
