TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Aditya Wisnu, 39, has changed the rhythm of his weekly commute. The private-sector employee in Jakarta used to rush to Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, every Friday afternoon to catch a Garuda Indonesia or Citilink flight. But over the past year, for his return trips to Yogyakarta, he has turned to another carrier. “Now I almost always choose Pelita Air,” he said on Thursday, November 27, 2025. The same goes for his flights back to the capital on Monday morning.
His reason, Aditya said, is straightforward. Pelita Air offers more economical fares and better punctuality. On-time performance, he noted, has become something of a rarity in aviation, where delays frequently disrupt travel plans. Pelita does not promise luxury, but passengers get new aircraft, clean cabins, and brisk service. “What matters is being on time, so passengers can plan and manage their schedules,” he said.
Pelita’s popularity has continued to rise since its commercial debut in April 2022. On several high-traffic routes, such as Jakarta-Yogyakarta, Jakarta-Bali, and Jakarta-Surabaya, the airline owned by Pertamina has quickly captured the attention of air commuters. Throughout 2024, Pelita carried 2.7 million passengers, doubling its previous year’s total.
Flight numbers jumped 97 percent, reaching 18,796 flights with a total seat capacity of 3.3 million. Pelita also recorded the best on-time performance among Indonesian carriers, according to the Transportation Ministry. Based on the Ministry’s on-time performance (OTP) parameter, Pelita led the rankings in 2024 with a score of 94.3 percent.
