TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The G7 summit ended on Wednesday in Evian without the issuance of a final communique under French leadership, ANTARA reported.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Group of Seven Western powers has failed to adopt a final communique. The previous G7 summit led by Canada in 2025 also failed.
During the Evian summit, nine working documents addressing specific themes were published, covering areas such as geopolitics, the global economy, and public health.
Summit organizers have abandoned plans to issue a final communique since the preparation stage, opting instead to publish thematic documents to avoid highlighting differences between the United States and its allies, Japan's Kyodo News reported, citing diplomatic sources.
For the host country, the Evian summit was "objectively successful" because the seven countries reached consensus on the crisis in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, strategic minerals, macroeconomic rebalancing and other issues, French President Emmanuel Macron said at a press conference after the summit.
The French president said he was aware of differences between the U.S. and its six allies, such as on climate change and the United Nations. However, he wanted to be "pragmatic" and would continue engagement with Washington to prevent the G7 from devolving into a "6+1" format, Macron told the media.
The G7 consists of the U.S., UK, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan. France holds the rotating presidency of the G7 this year.
