TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Forest and land fires in the area of Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, have been successfully controlled. "The total area of the fire reached 36 hectares," said the Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office in West Nusa Tenggara, Yarman, in Mataram on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

Yarman said that the forest fire was successfully controlled after two days of struggle by joint officers. The fire points were in the Rangga Pande Forest area, Sembalun Lawang Village or the area within the Mount Rinjani National Park conservation area.

Yarman mentioned that joint personnel from the TNGR Office, Dalkarhutla Jabalnusra, local police and TNI members, as well as the Fire Care Society, had to face steep topography, strong winds, and easily flammable dry vegetation. "The efforts began since Saturday morning, tracing the fire points, extinguishing the fire, until ensuring the area was safe again," he said.

The fire point in Rangga Gede Forest was discovered last Friday after a previous fire occurred in another location, Gelogor Paok, Sembalun Lawang Village, on Thursday. In this location, the fire burned an area of 10 hectares. "The fire that occurred was a surface fire, which burned bushes, grass, shrubs, and dry foliage," said Yarman.

He explained that the personnel at the Sembalun Resort initially received information from the public about a forest fire in the SPTN II TNGR area. The officers then confirmed it through remote monitoring.

Meanwhile, the actual location of the fire caused vegetation such as tree ferns, mountain cypress, acacia, and acacia decurrens to become fuel for the fire. "As a result, the fire quickly spread, especially due to fairly strong winds and steep terrain," he said, urging the public or tourists to increase vigilance and prohibiting burning in the forest area.
