TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s state-owned toll road operator, Jasa Marga, forecasts that the peak of the Eid homecoming rush starts today, March 28, 2025, and will last over the weekend. Jasa Marga has recorded that nearly 1 million vehicles left Jakarta this week.
"Indeed, the homecoming peak will be on Friday, March 28, based on our prediction,” said Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head Jasa Marga Lisye Octaviana on Thursday night, March 27, 2025.
Lisye detailed that currently 49% of the vehicles are heading towards the Trans-Java Toll Road via the Cikampek Main Toll Gate. Meanwhile, 21% of the vehicles are heading towards Bogor from the Ciawi Toll Gate. "Then, 29% are heading towards Merak," said Lisye.
Meanwhile, Lisye stated that mobility observed at the Cikampek Main Gate has reached 70%. Traffic volume on several toll road segments has also increased by 13% before Ramadan.
At the same time, House Commission VI conducted a surprise inspection at the Jasa Marga Tollroad Command Center Observation Post, Jatiasih, Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday night, March 27, 2025.
Head of the commission, Anggia Ermarini, called for smooth operations of the Eid homecoming traffic. “It is crucial because it’s not only about traffic congestions and overcrowding, it’s also concerns safety and security,” said Anggia after the inspection on Thursday night, March 27, 2025.
Previously, Jasa Marga had recorded that 459,147 vehicles had left Greater Jakarta, ten to eight days prior to Eid al-Fitr, cumulatively from four main toll gates: the Cikampek Main Toll Gate (towards Trans Java), Kalihurip Main Toll Gate (towards Bandung), Cikupa Toll Gate (towards Merak), and Ciawi Toll Gate (towards Puncak).
Jasa Marga said the traffic volume grew 17.8% compared to last year’s Eid homecoming traffic, with 389,645 vehicles, and 1.7% as opposed to regular traffic with 51,577 vehicles.
Furthermore, Lisye conveyed that starting from early last week until March 26, a 20% toll rate discount has been applied at several toll roads in Indonesia.
Moreover, in order to reduce the risk of accidents and traffic congestions, since Monday, March 24, until April 6, Jasa Marga has implemented time restrictions for freight transport in toll roads managed by the SOE. "This regulation is at the discretion of the police," she said.
