Danantara Aims for Garuda Indonesia's Full Fleet Operation by 2026

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) is targeting to have the entire Garuda Indonesia fleet fully operational by 2026. Febriany Eddy, the Managing Director of Danantara Indonesia, stated that numerous aircraft have been grounded since the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our target is to have all the currently grounded aircraft flying again next year, gradually," she said during an interview in her office on Friday, November 14, 2025.

Febriany explained that the recent fund injection from Danantara into Garuda will be primarily allocated for maintenance. She elaborated that the aircraft were non-operational due to overdue maintenance checks. The resulting operational loss from these grounded aircraft has caused a revenue shortfall while the airline was still obligated to cover aircraft leases and other fixed expenses, leading to significant losses for the company.

"Every day of delay adds to the hole that needs to be filled," she added.

Danantara recently injected an additional capital of Rp23.67 trillion from PT Danantara Asset Management, a decision approved during an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPSLB) held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. This capital comprises a cash deposit of Rp17.02 trillion and a debt conversion of Rp6.65 trillion.

The funds are allocated as follows:

Garuda Indonesia: About Rp8.7 trillion (37%) will be allocated for working capital needs, specifically for aircraft maintenance and upkeep.

Citilink: Rp14.9 trillion (63%) will be allocated to support the operation of its subsidiary, Citilink. This includes Rp 11.2 trillion for working capital and Rp3.7 trillion for settling fuel purchase obligations to Pertamina for the 2019-2021 period.

Febriany emphasized that the additional maintenance costs cannot be postponed any longer due to the company's substantial losses. "We will monitor and work closely with Garuda Indonesia's management team," she concluded.

According to Garuda Indonesia's official website, the current fleet consists of 77 aircraft, including Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 737-800NG, Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-300, and Airbus A330-900neo. The average age of the aircraft as of May 31, 2025, is 13.06 years.

Despite many of Garuda Indonesia's aircraft being parked, Febriany also revealed that a larger portion of Citilink's fleet is currently non-operational. With the additional funding, the dual goal is for both companies' fleets to resume operations and simultaneously avoid internal competition within specific routes.

"Garuda and Citilink are not purely synergistic, which is why it's also one of the transformations we are undertaking," she further explained.
