TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Board of Peace (BoP) representative Nickolay Mladenov said on Friday that Israel's strict border restrictions were the main obstacle preventing humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip.

Mladenov told Al-Qahera News that multiple challenges are hindering the sustainable and adequate distribution of aid to residents, as quoted by Antara.

He warned that the previous aid distribution mechanisms had been destroyed and that alternative systems had not yet been put in place.

Mladenov emphasized that Israeli restrictions at border crossings, especially those concerning goods classified as "dual-use," are the "biggest obstacle."

He noted that the policy was used to restrict the entry of essential goods needed by civilians and the healthcare sector.

Another major challenge is the deployment of Israeli troops in Gaza, where more than half of the territory remains under Israeli control.

"Former aid distribution systems were destroyed by the war. Effective alternatives to reach the population have not yet been established, creating a major logistical problem," he said.

Mladenov also noted that, despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis, international attention has waned due to regional developments.

He welcomed the financial commitments from BoP member states, including Egypt, the United States, and the Gulf states. However, he noted that the real challenge lies in translating those commitments into tangible assistance on the ground.

The BoP official called for the accelerated delivery of temporary housing units for civilians and stressed the urgent need to rebuild Gaza's health sector.

Mladenov emphasized the importance of reintegrating long-term absentees into the education system, cautioning that prolonged disruption could have serious long-term consequences.
