TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Transportation’s Directorate General of Air Transportation reported that air services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali ran smoothly during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) holidays.
During this peak season, the airport served 82,445 passengers. This figure marks a slight increase from the previous year’s holiday period, which recorded 81,500 passengers.
Director General of Air Transportation Lukman F. Laisa stated that flight capacity remained stable despite the surge in travel demand. "We ensure that air transportation during the Nataru period, including routes to and from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, remains safe and efficient," Lukman said in a statement on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
High demand led airlines to schedule extra flights. The Ministry of Transportation issued 285 approvals for additional flights to and from Bali between December 18 and 29, 2025. Of that total, 267 flights were successfully operated.
Passenger occupancy on major domestic routes also reached high levels. The Jakarta-Denpasar route recorded an average load factor of 94 percent. Business class occupancy hit 83 percent, while economy class reached 94 percent. To handle the volume on this specific route, airlines operated 71 extra flights.
Lukman noted that these figures show seat capacity is being used effectively. Public interest in air travel for the year-end holidays remains strong. "The frequency of flights to Bali is consistent, ranging between 32 and 45 flights per day," he added.
From December 18 to 28, 2025, Ngurah Rai Airport recorded a daily average of 467 aircraft movements. This represents a 10.14 percent growth compared to the same period last year. Total flight movements reached 4,787, showing a 2.93 percent increase.
Total passenger movement for the period reached 768,949 people. While 267 extra flights were realized, the cumulative on-time performance stood at 67.48 percent. The overall load factor for all flights during the holiday season reached 74.05 percent.
