TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Association of Islamic Arts and Culture (HSBI) and Millennial Literary World (JSM) hosted a discussion, "Film and Literature," in response to artificial intelligence at Galeri Darmin, Duren Tiga, South Jakarta, on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
The discussion featured Hanny Mustofa, a director and a longtime film practitioner on private television. In his presentation, Hanny stated that, as artists, there is no need to show antipathy towards technological developments such as AI.
"Instead, we should 'embrace' and utilize the technological sophistication as a complement to our creativity, without having to depend on the technology itself," said Hanny. Furthermore, Hanny mentioned that so far, artists and society in general have been able to adapt to various developments.
Meanwhile, Riri Satria, an information technology expert and Chairman of the Millennial Literary World (JSM), stated that not all technological products are pure works of art. Rather, they are products of engineering without feeling or aesthetics. "That's why purely human-made works remain paramount," said Riri. He added that humans must be able to regulate and maximize AI.
The event, which took place from 13:40 to 16:00 local time, was attended by Helvy Tiana Rossa, the Head of the Literature Division of HSBI, Uyung Mahagenta, Head of the Music Division of HSBI, and other officials of HSBI, such as Abdul Mujib, Nike, Ismail Lautan, and Putra Gara, who acted as the moderator. Literary enthusiasts Rintis Mulya, Mustafa Ismail, and Logo Situmorang (the son of writer Situmorang) were also in attendance.
The event was also enriched by poetry readings from members of the JSM community, including Rommy Sastra, Nunung Noor El Niel, Erna Winarsih Wiyono, Khairani Piliang, Rissa Curia, as well as HSBI officials Helvy Tiana Rossa, Nike Fenty, and Doel Azhar.
