TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDIP is urging the government of President Prabowo Subianto to conduct a thorough investigation and law enforcement efforts regarding the development of the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park Airport or IMIP airport in Central Sulawesi.
PDIP politician Guntur Romli stated that his party appreciates the revocation of the IMIP Morowali Airport permit by the government. However, law enforcement and investigation must be carried out to ensure that there are no violations of regulations and national sovereignty in the development of the area.
"Moreover, even the Defense Minister mentioned that there is a republic within a republic," Guntur said via WhatsApp on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
He also mentioned the statement of former President Joko Widodo, who claimed to have never inaugurated the IMIP Airport in Morowali. According to him, this statement is puzzling and suspicious because the public knows that Jokowi inaugurated PT IMIP in 2015.
Regarding the allegations of Jokowi's involvement in the development of the IMIP Airport, Guntur reinforced the suspicions with the argument that the airport's existence went unchecked during both of Jokowi's terms in office. "Is it reasonable that during Jokowi's 10-year era, the country was said to overlook it?" he questioned.
Therefore, Guntur emphasized that President Prabowo must conduct a thorough investigation and law enforcement efforts to ensure that there are no violations of regulations and national sovereignty in the airport's development. "To avoid setting a bad precedent," Guntur said.
The government revoked the IMIP Airport permit through the Minister of Transportation Decision Number KM 55 of 2025, which was uploaded on the ministry's official website on Friday, November 28, 2025. Based on the decision document read by Tempo, this new regulation was signed by Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi on October 13, 2025.
This new regulation also revokes Minister of Transportation Decision Number KM 38 of 2025, which previously designated IMIP as one of the special airports that could serve international flights under certain conditions.
In addition to the IMIP Airport, the Special Airport of Weda Bay in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, also lost the same status.
Prior to this, the existence of the IMIP Airport in Morowali came under scrutiny after Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin stated that the area was not supervised by Customs or Immigration. The Secretary-General of the National Defense Force said that the lack of supervision from these two state agencies was an anomaly and had the potential to threaten Indonesia's economic sovereignty, thus it must be reported to President Prabowo.
"This republic must not have a republic within it. We must uphold all provisions without looking at the background of where they come from," Sjafrie said in a written statement quoted from the Ministry of Defense website on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Furthermore, Jokowi denied claims that he had inaugurated the IMIP Airport in Morowali during his presidency. He stated that he only inaugurated the Maleo Airport in Morowali during his presidency. "As for that one, I believe it's privately owned," Jokowi said at his residence on Friday, November 28, 2025.
