TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of protesters in the United States (US) took to the streets to oppose President Donald Trump's administration. Massive demonstrations took place in all 50 states in the US. They condemned Trump's policies, which were referred to as a threat to the nation's democratic ideals, including immigrant deportations and mass firings of government employees.

The protests on Saturday, as reported by Al Jazeera, occurred in downtown Manhattan and in front of the White House in Washington, DC. Protesters also crowded the Massachusetts Bicentennial, marking the start of the American Revolutionary War 250 years ago. The protests took place just two weeks after a similar national protest against the Trump administration, which was attended by thousands of participants.

The wave of protests was organized by the grassroots group "50501" and took place in all 50 states on Saturday, April 19, 2025. According to Neewsweek, the national demonstration was named "50 protests, 50 states, one day," the latest rally in a series of actions by a rapidly growing movement. Similar actions occurred several times in February with the theme 'Not My President's Day' and the global protest action 'Hands Off' earlier this month.

The organizers said they were protesting against Trump's policies, which were described as violations of civil rights and the US Constitution. The masses also protested the efforts to deport hundreds of immigrants and cut the federal government budget by firing thousands of government employees and closing all agencies.

In Manhattan, protesters opposed the ongoing immigrant deportations from the steps of the New York Public Library. "No fear, no hate, no ICE in our state!" they shouted, referring to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

One of the protesters, 80-year-old Thomas Bassford, said that he believed that Americans were currently under attack by their own government and needed to fight back. "This is a very dangerous time for freedom in America," he said. "I want my grandsons to learn about the origins of this country and that sometimes we have to fight for freedom."

Elsewhere, protests were planned outside a Tesla car dealership against billionaire Trump advisor, Elon Musk, and his role in streamlining the federal government, while others organized community service events, such as food drives, teaching events, and volunteering at local shelters.

Some events were inspired by the spirit of the American Revolutionary War. The masses called for no king and resistance to tyranny.

Boston resident George Bryant was among those present in Concord. He was concerned that Trump was creating a police state in America. He raised a banner that read, 'The fascist Trump regime must go now!'

Since taking office, Trump has implemented a number of executive orders aimed at overhauling the federal government, rolling back environmental protections, restricting press access, and enforcing strict immigration measures. Critics have expressed concerns about court decisions and questioned the electoral process.

Hunter Dunn, the national press coordinator for 50501, said that they were not just protesting but raising awareness among Americans on various issues. Dunn emphasized that their focus varied by location.

"In Southern California, this might look like a mutual aid movement to help people still suffering from the devastating forest fires. Elsewhere, it might look like demonstrations against fascist mass deportation plans (by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement)."
