TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Social Survey (ISS) has released its latest national report, “80 Years of Indonesia’s Independence: How Is the Quality of Life of Indonesian Society?”, on Thursday, August 21, 2025. One of the key findings highlights public satisfaction with the performance of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.

The survey, conducted from July 11–20, involved 2,200 respondents across Indonesia using a multi-stage random sampling method. It has a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of 2.5 percent.

Government Satisfaction Level

According to ISS, 78 percent of respondents expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Prabowo-Gibran government, while 16.1 percent said they were dissatisfied.

ISS Executive Director Whinda Yustisia explained that the high satisfaction level stems largely from non-economic factors, such as political trust and public services.

Out of 39 indicators of quality of life, eight stood out as the main drivers of satisfaction: overall life satisfaction, school facilities, sense of security, trust in the president, trust in the vice president, trust in the cabinet, trust in the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and satisfaction with the democratic process.

“This means that public satisfaction is more strongly influenced by non-economic aspects such as security, political legitimacy, and the quality of basic services,” Whinda said in a statement on Friday, August 22.

Household Economy Still Weak

While satisfaction levels were high, ISS found that economic well-being scored the lowest among indicators of quality of life. Household expenditure data revealed that 41.8 percent of respondents spend between Rp750,000 and Rp2 million per month, while 6.9 percent live on less than Rp 750,000 monthly.

Financial struggles remain widespread: 59.6 percent of respondents admitted they had to borrow money due to running out of funds, and 62.2 percent of household heads reported the same condition.

Trust in Institutions

The survey also measured public trust in state institutions. The presidency recorded the highest level of trust at 90.9 percent, with 73.3 percent of respondents saying they “somewhat trust” the president and 17.6 percent stating they “strongly trust” him.

“The president is currently the most trusted institution, one of the highest levels seen since the reform era,” Whinda noted.

The vice president followed with an 81.6 percent trust rating, while the cabinet scored 73.6 percent. By contrast, legislative bodies ranked lower: the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the House of Representatives (DPR) recorded a combined trust level of 67.2 percent, with around 20 percent of respondents expressing no trust.

Political parties scored the lowest with 60.8 percent, and 24 percent of respondents saying they do not trust them.

Defense and security institutions fared better. The TNI garnered an 89.1 percent trust rating, while the Indonesian National Police received 70.1 percent.
