TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - How often do you visit the same vacation destination? According to a study, tourists return for several reasons. There are several reasons they return to the same place. It's not just because they love everything the destination has to offer.
Nellson Beach Clubs' 2026 Trends Report shows a clear increase in repeat bookings. Seven out of 10 guests return to the resort every year. The travel services provider's CEO, David Taylor, said everyone looks forward to vacations.
"So when you’ve found something you love that delivers a great experience, it’s natural to return again with confidence that the holiday won’t disappoint," he said, as reported by Express.
According to the study, which involved 2,000 adults, the average person who enjoys repeat visits returns to the same place six times. Nearly one in five people have visited their favorite place between six and 20 times.
Reasons Why Tourists Visit the Same Place
There are several reasons why tourists return to the same place. The study found that more than half of tourists liked what the destination offered. Fifteen percent also preferred familiar destinations.
Meanwhile, 29 percent of tourists felt confident in the safety of the destination. Another 29 percent returned to the same destination after developing a strong emotional bond with it.
Furthermore, the appeal of familiar destinations was even stronger among family travelers. More than a quarter, or 26 percent, of all respondents said they frequently revisited the same destination because it was easier to plan. Meanwhile, one in 20 parents admitted that visiting an unfamiliar place with children can be stressful.
Changes in vacation habits
David Taylor added that people find it easier to relax by engaging their minds. "if your mind is busy getting your body to do something you love, you can truly switch off mentally," he said.
The study revealed significant changes in vacation habits. One example is an increase in interest in active vacations, up 33 percent from last year. More than half of respondents who currently exercise on vacation would consider booking a fitness-focused trip to improve their physical health.
While 67 percent still prefer more relaxing vacations, nearly one in four said the fitness element provides the same enjoyment. For many, exercise is seen as a way to reduce stress and help rejuvenate the body and mind.
