TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - K-Pop singer HyunA fainted on stage during her performance at the Waterbomb festival in Macau, China, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, while performing her hit song Bubble Pop.
In a message to fans, HyunA admitted she had no memory of the incident. “I apologize for not being able to perform as professionally as I want. Honestly, I don’t remember anything,” she wrote, as reported by Koreaboo.
HyunA has been open about her ongoing health challenges, including eating disorders, dieting, and mental health struggles. She has also experienced vasovagal syncope, a condition that can cause sudden fainting due to drops in heart rate and blood pressure.
In 2020, she reportedly fainted 12 times in a single month while trying to maintain her performance standards. In 2019, she revealed that she had concealed her diagnosis for fear of harming her career.
Understanding Vasovagal Syncope
Vasovagal syncope occurs when the nervous system overreacts, causing a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure, leading to temporary loss of consciousness. Also called neurocardiogenic syncope, it is usually brief and not dangerous, according to Cleveland Clinic.
Episodes often occur while standing or sitting and can be triggered by stress, fatigue, dehydration, or rapid weight loss. The vagus nerve, which controls heart rate and blood pressure, becomes overactive, reducing blood flow to the brain and causing fainting.
Symptoms and Prevention
Symptoms usually appear 30 to 60 seconds before fainting and may include fatigue, nausea, blurred vision, lightheadedness, sweating, or pale skin.
Most people recover quickly without medical help, though treatment may involve fluids for dehydration or medications for heart rhythm or blood pressure problems.
Preventive measures include staying hydrated, increasing salt intake under medical guidance, recognizing early warning signs, lying down or sitting immediately, and practicing counter-pressure techniques such as tensing leg muscles or squeezing the fingers to maintain blood flow.
HyunA’s fainting incident highlights the physical and mental pressures K-Pop performers face while maintaining intense schedules. Fans continue to show support and concern for her health, emphasizing the importance of awareness and care for conditions like vasovagal syncope in the entertainment industry.
