TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States President Donald Trump's administration does not appear to be planning a new military aid package, including weapons, to Ukraine, according to a report by the New York Times (NYT) which cited several officials as reported by Antara on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
At present, Washington is still waiting for the military aid, which has been approved by President Joe Biden's administration.
However, there is ''almost no serious discussion'' within Trump's administration regarding further military aid to Ukraine, according to the NYT report on Friday.
It is also still unclear whether Washington wants to hand over Ukraine's defense to the Europeans or Ukraine itself.
In addition, there is no guarantee that the U.S. will continue to share intelligence information with Ukraine, according to European officials quoted in the U.S. daily report.
When asked by journalists on Friday, Trump refused to say whether the U.S. will continue to send weapons to Ukraine if his government decides to stop being involved in peace efforts.
However, Trump again expressed his hope that a ceasefire could soon be achieved.
In early March, following a debate between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, Trump briefly halted all military aid and intelligence cooperation with Ukraine.
The aid and cooperation were resumed after the U.S. and Ukraine negotiated in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11.
At that time, Ukraine stated its readiness to consider the U.S. proposal to initiate an initial 30-day ceasefire amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
