TEMPO.CO, Jakarta US President Donald Trump has said he is forming an "AI force," as many, including those from within the industry, have recently sounded the alarm about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence continuing to grow unchecked.

In a social media post on Saturday, Trump said he will announce an "AI czar" to lead the force soon.

The US president continued to brush off warnings about AI's dangers from experts and the AI industry itself as "hoaxes" pushed by the Democrats.

What did Trump say about the 'AI force'?

While dismissing warnings about AI, Trump still vowed to be "be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing criminal and civil justice system."

"For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my first term. To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI 'Czar,'" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The US president, who has enjoyed a close relationship with big tech bosses especially during his second term in office, also vowed "not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible Industry," in reference to AI.

"Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!"

He described AI as "the next industrial revolution," predicting it will account for 25% of the US GDP.

"We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep it that way!"

Trump compared the criticism of the unchecked, ultrafast growth of AI to what he called other "hoaxes," listing efforts to impeach him, transgender rights and global warming as examples.

Why have there been growing calls for regulating AI?

Some of the top names in AI said earlier this week they were working on creating a standards body they say would regulate the industry.

Industry giants including ChatGPT's OpenAI, Google and Anthropic said they envisioned a self-regulatory body.

The proposal comes amid growing concerns about AI safety, which have escelated in recent weeks, with several AI agents going rogue and breaking into competitors' systems.

Even top names within the industry have raised similar concerns.

Last week, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for a slowdown in the industry's development, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, xAI's Elon Musk and Google DeepMind chair Demis Hassabis all supporting the sentiment.

Trump has dismissed calls to contain AI development as "hoaxes" and a "conspiracy."

Smaller AI companies have meanwhile warned any self-regulatory measures spearheaded by the big names would come at their expense.
