The following is the list of the top 3 news on Tempo English today:
1. Indonesia to Cut Coal Production in 2026 to Lift Global Prices
Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) plans to reduce coal production in 2026 as part of efforts to stabilize and increase coal prices in the international market.
“The production will be restrained. There will be a decrease in production because coal prices have plummeted,” said Tri Winarno, Director General of Minerals and Coal at the ESDM Ministry, in a statement to Antara on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Tri indicated that coal output next year could fall below 700 million tons, although the ministry has yet to specify the exact reduction target.
2. Indonesia to Begin B50 Biodiesel Road Test in Early December
Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has announced a nationwide road test for B50 biodiesel, a 50 percent palm oil and 50 percent diesel fuel blend, scheduled to begin on December 3, 2025.
The trials will cover a wide range of applications, including passenger vehicles, ships, agricultural machinery, mining vehicles, trains, and power generators, with testing periods varying across sectors.
“Some tests will take two months, others four, six, or up to eight months,” said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, during the Indonesia Palm Oil Conference 2025 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
3. AGO Investigates Alleged Corruption in Telkomsel Investment in GoTo
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has confirmed that it is currently investigating allegations of corruption in the investment of PT Telkomsel in PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO). "It is still in the investigation stage, so it's still confidential," said the Head of the Attorney General's Office Legal Information Center, Anang Supriatna, via a WhatsApp message on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Based on a memorandum from the Attorney General's Office dated March 2023, which was received by Tempo, prosecutors suspect unlawful actions in the investment. "Based on data analysis and information related to relevant regulations, there are alleged unlawful actions in Telkom's investment through PT Telkomsel in GoTo's stock purchase," reads the prosecutor's assessment.
The investment being investigated is Telkomsel's capital injection into GoTo during the 2020-2021 period. It began on November 16, 2020, when Telkomsel invested US$150 million in the form of interest-free convertible bonds in PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (AKAB), the parent company of Gojek.
