TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On Saturday, shortly before sunset, March 14, 2026, Dimas Bagus Arya Saputra was standing watch at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central General Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta. The Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) was keeping watching over his colleague, Andrie Yunus, who lay on the ninth floor of the intensive care pavilion after being doused with acid by personnel from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) of the Indonesian Military (TNI) two days earlier.
As he was about to head to Andrie’s room on the ninth floor, Dimas ran into three well-built men accompanied by a hospital security guard inside the elevator. He asked where the group was headed after noticing that the guard had pressed every floor button on the lift panel. Dimas later learned that the team was from the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres). “At first I thought Prabowo was coming,” Dimas said in Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
The Paspampres personnel told Dimas that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka intended to come and visit Andrie. Dimas refused, explaining that Andrie could not receive visitors because he was in intensive care after suffering burns over 20 percent of his body from the acid attack. The Paspampres officer insisted on meeting Andrie’s parents, but Dimas stopped him, saying that he, too, bore responsibility for Andrie as KontraS leader.
Despite being turned away by the KontraS team, Gibran still went to the hospital with a relatively small entourage several hours after the advance security team’s arrival. He suddenly appeared on the ninth floor, just a few meters from the door to Andrie’s room. Dimas and a member of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) stopped Gibran from seeing Andrie. “We did not want this incident to be used as a political event,” Dimas said.
